Under General Assembly resolution A/RES/80/251, Member States drafting a new mandate are asked to identify the technical secretariat focal point for it. This is where those focal points are designated: the single entry point a delegation is directed to on a given subject, and the person who will point them to the right colleague. The offices asked are the ones that can give a delegation technical support on the subject of a draft resolution, wherever in the United Nations they sit. The bodies that deliberate on mandates rather than service or implement them are not asked. It covers new mandates rather than the renewal of existing ones.
